The Worland Community Garden
We have one mission above all: to fight food insecurity. We believe everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food, whether through their own garden or ours. Through our food donations and educational outreach, we hope to end hunger in our own town, and support the fight against hunger throughout Wyoming.
Educational Outreach
Many people have the ability to garden, but lack the knowledge. We seek to provide educational programs and resources to help people have successful home gardens and take control of some of their own food production. We show various techniques in our gardens that can be adapted to a variety of spaces, large and small; and we offer classes and programs throughout the season to teach critical gardening skills and horticultural science that can help plants thrive.
Food Donations
Our garden isn’t just for show! Our dedication garden staff cares meticulously for our space so it can be as productive as possible, and all of that produce is available to anyone completely free of charge. We work closely with the Washakie County Extension office and the Wyoming Hunger Initiative’s “Grow a Little Extra” program to make sure our produce can reach those in need, whether that be individuals, families, or organizations.
FAQs
Can I rent a plot?
Our garden is run a little differently than most community gardens; rather than individuals renting a section for their own use, we have garden staff that cares for the space so all produce can be donated. However, we welcome volunteers of all walks of life to come work with us (and take home some produce as well!).
How can I get produce?
During peak harvest time, all produce is taken to the Washakie County Extension office as a central location for the “Grow a Little Extra” program. You are also welcome to stop by the garden during working hours; our garden staff can direct you to what is ripe and you can harvest and weigh what you want!
How can I get involved?
We have various ways you can support our mission. Check out our tabs for membership info, sponsoring rows, and contact info. Reach out to us and we can let you know all the ways you can help!
